Strong mobile coverage for the office of the future – revisited

When Foster + Partners designed Bloomberg’s London HQ, they envisioned a workplace that would change over time. It was meant to be open, collaborative, and flexible. As thousands of staff and visitors move through the space daily, the need for reliable mobile connectivity has only increased. Years later, Pan RF’s discreet but effective mobile coverage solution continues to deliver what this world-class building needs: uninterrupted mobile service and two-way radio performance throughout the entire site.

Still delivering: reliable coverage in a high-performance building

Pan RF’s solution, originally aimed at supporting all four UK mobile network operators and enabling critical two-way radio communications, remains strong and dependable. It handles an increasing number of devices and mobile-dependent workflows without issues. In a building that sees hundreds of roaming users daily, this reliability shows good engineering and reflects smart planning and readiness for the future.

Why it worked – and keeps working

From the start, Pan RF collaborated closely with architects, ceiling contractors, and system integrators to install a distributed antenna system (DAS) throughout the building. This careful planning allowed signals to reach every area without compromising the building’s award-winning design.

The use of thermally efficient materials such as sandstone, bronze, and high-performance glazing could have blocked mobile signals, but Pan RF’s early involvement ensured that the design addressed these challenges. With more buildings now using similar eco-friendly materials, Bloomberg HQ stands out as an excellent example of how upfront planning can avoid costly changes later.

Five years later – still ahead of the curve

System integrity: The DAS installed by Pan RF continues to provide strong 4G coverage and has the capacity for future upgrades and network changes.

5G-ready thinking: Pan RF’s initial infrastructure design considered future upgrades, so transitioning to 5G is simple where needed.

A model for future builds

As developers and landlords shift to hybrid working, mobile coverage is no longer an afterthought post-construction. Bloomberg London is a prime example of how to implement mobile coverage effectively in terms of appearance, design, and operation.

Pan RF insight:

“Revisiting Bloomberg HQ reinforces one of our key points: mobile coverage should be part of the design conversation from the start. The success of this project wasn’t just about technology; it was about timing, integration, and forward thinking.”
